PWInsider had previously reported that Edwards had undergone the surgery on 17 May, with a Twitter post made on 24 May from Eddie's official page confirming as such. He's currently recuperating at home.

Eddie has been a major player in IMPACT since 2014, where he arrived alongside former Wolves partner Davey Richards. He's since gone on to hold both the World Championship and X Division Championship twice, respectively, as well as five runs as World Tag Team Champion with Richards, making him IMPACT's eighth Triple Crown Champion as a result. On top of that, he won the inaugural Call Your Shot gauntlet match in October 2019, the 2014 Tag Team of the Year award with Davey, and both the 2014 and 2020 Match of the Year awards.

Edwards' last televised bout saw him team with then-World Tag Team Champions FinJuice as they defeated Kenny Omega and the Good Brothers at the Under Siege special on 15 May, where Eddie scored the winning pin on Karl Anderson. This was, however, taped at the end of April.

There's currently no word on when Eddie is set to return to IMPACT Wrestling, with a typical recovery time from appendicitis only being a couple of weeks.
