After having reportedly signed a WWE contract in May of last year, Shirai was expected to be announced as a participant in the inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament last summer, which followed on from a visit to the Performance Centre in March. Unfortunately, plans fell through, and Shirai returned to Stardom at the end of July 2017.

At just 28 years of age, Io Shirai has already captured the hearts of millions of fans across the world with her captivating in-ring style. Best known for her work in Stardom, she remained on top of the company as their Artist of Stardom Champion for 18 months. Having been on WWE's radar for quite some time now, it's just been a matter of waiting until she finally signs across the dotted line for the company, if she hasn't done so already.
