Jade Cargill: It'd Be A Total Disrespect If I Became AEW Women's Champion Right Now
Why one belt is enough for reigning AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill at the moment.
Jade Cargill has no plans to become a double champion in All Elite Wrestling - at least for now.
Speaking with DJ Whoo Kid, who appeared at AEW's Grand Slam special on 21 September, Cargill gave an in-character answer when addressing the situation. Jade claimed it would be a "total disrespect" for her to add the AEW Women's World Championship to her collection. For now, Cargill is willing to "give these women the time and grace to do their best", with her focus firmly on building the TBS Championship up to feel "more special than the main belt."
Said Cargill (h/t Fightful):-
"I think it would be a total disrespect if I just go for both belts and get both belts right now. So I'm just going to give these women the time and the grace to do their best until I decide that I want to go for the other belt. Honestly, it's on my time. Let me just give them Grace and give them time to get their stuff together and get the little shine they need because once I take over, it's done. Everything is on my time and I'm just relaxed, chillin', I'm enjoying this belt right now. I'm building it up and making it more special than the main belt right now. That's my goal."
Cargill became AEW's first and only TBS Champion by winning a tournament designed to crown the inaugural champion on 5 January 2022, defeating Ruby Soho. She has since mounted 13 successful defences, felling the likes of Madison Rayne, Athena, Tay Conti, and Anna Jay, with Willow Nightingale mounting the latest failed challenge at Battle Of The Belts IV on 7 October.
Still a relative rookie in the wrestling business, Cargill has been heavily protected by AEW since 3 March 2021, when she debuted alongside NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal in a match with Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet. Besting Nightingale last week means she is remained undefeated at 39-0 in the promotion.
Toni Storm, the reigning Interim Women's World Champion, has held AEW's other women's belt since 4 September. A unification match with Thunder Rosa awaits once the injured star is cleared to compete once more.
