Jake Atlas Injured In First AEW Rampage Match, MRI Scheduled
Jake Atlas was wrestling Adam Cole in his first televised AEW match when injury struck.
A cruel twist of fate struck Jake Atlas' young AEW career last night, as the newcomer was injured while wrestling Adam Cole during tapings for this Friday's episode of Rampage.
Per Bryan Alvarez of Figure Four Online/The Wrestling Observer, Atlas suffered a knee injury while springboarding into the ring to eat a superkick from Cole. He was favouring the knee after this, with the issue rendering him unable to take his opponent's Panama Sunrise finisher, meaning the bout ended via kneebar instead.
An MRI has been scheduled for Atlas. This should reveal the extent of any damage, though Alvarez noted that it's possible AEW's latest signing might be okay.
Atlas debuted for AEW on a match taped for this week's episode of Dark: Elevation. Defeating Serpentico in an impressive squash match, he was met by AEW president and owner Tony Khan on the ramp afterwards. Then, on Tuesday, Khan hit Twitter to confirm Atlas' signing.
Cole set up the Atlas match on last night's episode of Dynamite, after which the Rampage tapings were held, claiming that he wanted to prove he was still AEW's most talked-about newcomer.
All the best to Jake, whom we hope isn't seriously injured.
