Jerry Lawler announced on the latest episode of his podcast, 'Dinner with the King', that not only has he signed a fresh two year contract with WWE, but that he'll be making a surprise comeback with the headset beneath his crown, taking on commentary duties for the Royal Rumble.

Lawler won't be calling the entire show, but will be offering insight on the eponymous men's match alongside regular Michael Cole and, for some reason, a returning JBL.

From this, we can only presume the women's match will have an all-female line-up behind the announce desk, most likely helmed by usual Raw commentator Renee Young.

This past Monday's episode of Raw, emanating from Lawler's hometown of Memphis, featured a brief cameo from 'The King', when he was spotted backstage emerging from a meeting with Vince McMahon - perhaps a sneaky nod to his newly penned deal.

The new contract, which Lawler revealed comes up for renewal on 10 January every year, was probably a mere formality; the Memphis legend is one of the company's most tenured employees. He has been with the company since 1992, save for a year's sabbatical in 2001 when he walked out over the firing of his then-wife Stacy Carter.
