Jim Ross Will Call Brock Lesnar Vs. Goldberg At WrestleMania 33
Longtime Raw announcer signs deal for WWE return.
PWInsider is reporting that Jim Ross is returning to WWE, and will be calling the Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg match at WrestleMania 33.
This is part of a new deal with the company that J.R. has signed, which will see him record material for WWE Network broadcasts and occasionally call matches for television.
Ross has been in the news lately for the worst of reasons. On March 21, his wife, Jan, was involved in an auto accident that saw her suffer severe head injuries. She was put on life support and passed away two days later. PWInsider has confirmed that the deal to bring J.R. back to WWE was signed prior to Jan's accident, and Ross stated that he wanted to come to Orlando in order to see his friends.
Ross was a regular announcer for WWE for over 25 years, albeit with breaks due to health issues and brief gaps in employment. In 2009, he was taken off TV after suffering a bout of Bell's Palsy, and following his recovery, he would only make sporadic appearances, primarily working off TV. In 2013, he retired from the company following a raucous panel at the WWE 2K14 roster announcement event, though many suspected that J.R. was fired as an act of punishment.
There is no word on how this will affect Ross's position on AXS TV's New Japan Pro Wrestling show.
