Former WWE Champion – that still sounds weird, right? – Jinder Mahal is set for a spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery earlier this month.

The Modern Day Maharaja took to his Instagram page to reveal that he’s gone under the knife to fix a ruptured patella tendon and seemingly to get an ongoing knee issue checked out:

Following the injury occurring at a SmackDown house show bout against Ali, Mahal headed to Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Centre over in Birmingham, Alabama; Dr Andrews and his facility having famously been used by a multitude of wrestlers over the years.

While this is certainly a blow for Jinder, there was some more positive news for the hulking superstar earlier this week when it was reported that he has signed a new five-year contract with the WWE.

Despite embarking on a six-month reign as WWE Champion only two years, Mahal has recently been chasing around after R-Truth’s 24/7 Championship. No matter how you look at it, that’s one mighty fall from grace. Then again, many are still scratching their head at how Jinder ended up as WWE Champ in the first place.
