John Cena has hit Twitter to confirm that he is, indeed, done with WWE - for now.

Following on from his SummerSlam 2021 loss to Roman Reigns, the 16-time World Champion tweeted the following:-

The Summer of Cena is now over. As reported earlier, WWE is moving forward on the understanding that Cena won't be available for the foreseeable future due to filming commitments.

Cena is currently being advertised for WWE's Supershow in Madison Square Garden on Friday, 10 September. This will air in SmackDown's usual slot, though John's comments give the impression that he may be used in an untelevised role rather than competing onscreen. Nonetheless, him being announced for the event helped spike lagging ticket sales in what used to be WWE's strongest market.

Reigns defeated Cena in around 23 minutes at SummerSlam. This was billed as something of a title vs. career match, with Roman putting up his Universal Championship against a promise to leave WWE in the event of a defeat. The bout was followed by Brock Lesnar's return for the first time since April 2020, with the Beast staring Reigns down before destroying Cena after the pay-per-view had gone off the air.
