With Johnny Gargano's WWE contract previously reported as expiring on 3 December 2021, it now appears the former NXT Champion has penned a short contract extension.

As per Fightful Select, Gargano has signed a one-week extension that now means, as it stands, he'll become a free agent on 10 December.

Last night saw Johnny Wrestling become a part of the WarGames match at NXT's upcoming special, with that show to take place two days after Gargano's initial WWE contract was due to expire. Instead, this short-term extension means the NXT Triple Crown Champion will be able to work the WarGames event and the following week's episode of NXT programming.

At NXT WarGames 2021, Gargano will be teaming with Tommaso Ciampa, Pete Dunne and LA Knight to take on Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Tony D'Angelo and Grayson Waller in an eponymous bout.

In terms of Johnny's future, this same Fightful report adds how talks are ongoing between Gargano and WWE, with him being spoken highly of for how he was open to signing the aforementioned extension in order to help the company out - with that something that also Adam Cole did earlier in the year before departing for AEW.
