Latest On AEW's Backstage Response To CM Punk's Collision Promo
More on how AEW reacted to "Counterfeit Bucks", "One Bill Phil" and other CM Punk bombs.
"Counterfeit" they may be, but The Young Bucks reacted to CM Punk's headline-making AEW Collision promo with light-heartedness.
Fightful Select reports that despite being the targets of the most direct barb in Punk's comeback promo, Matt and Nick Jackson were okay with what happened, reassuring those who had inquired with them.
Punk's "Counterfeit Bucks" line was one of many in an incendiary promo from the 44-year-old, who referred to himself as "One Bill Phil" in an apparent reference to rumours of AEW landing a billion-dollar television deal. These rumours have not yet come to pass.
Fightful states that people within AEW noted Punk removing the company's microphone flag during his segment, which he has done in WWE in the past. People on both sides of the "cage-rattling segment" believed that Punk was "just getting out what he needed to get out," though others felt the Chicagoan was being hypocritical, having criticised people for being "soft" after expressing upset at the way his 2022 program with 'Hangman' Adam Page panned out.
Non-disclosure agreements preventing The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and CM Punk from talking about the infamous post-All Out 2022 brawl are in place, though this is not the case with Punk and Page.
As far as what comes next for Punk, he remains scheduled for tomorrow's Dynamite. AEW is yet to announce this. The promotion remains hopeful of booking a match with NJPW's KENTA for this weekend's Forbidden Door pay-per-view, too.
