Latest On The Lucha Bros To WWE
New details on the Lucha Bros possibly leaving AEW for WWE.
With plentiful speculation in recent weeks that their time with AEW is coming to an end, there's now an update on the Lucha Bros potentially signing with WWE.
Previously, it was reported that both Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix's AEW contracts were expiring at some point this summer, with both keen to go to WWE, to avoid NXT, and to be signed as a package deal.
Now, Fightful Select reports that the 'package deal' element wouldn't be an issue, as the company has long had interest in both men, but that Penta himself has pushed back on such reports. However, sources close to Penta claim he said he'll be in Orlando, Florida at some point this week, although it wasn't specified if this was to visit the WWE Performance Center. Interestingly, Penta El Zero Miedo is booked for a Garza Reyes Promociones event in Mexico this Thursday in what is being billed as his farewell before joining an "important North American company".
In terms of AEW, Fightful adds that the Lucha Bros were offered a new deal that's believed to be the same as what Penta has told people WWE has put on the table for the siblings. This report also notes how Penta has told friends that his AEW deal has actually already expired, which would obviously make him a free agent who would be absolutely fine to speak to WWE. From AEW, internally there's a claim that the Lucha Bros didn't want to do business in the right way when it comes to exiting the company, with "multiple" sources believing Penta is pushing back on these recent reports so that Rey Fenix - whose contract is believed to be up in October - could depart AEW without any "contractual issues".
Throwing some confusion into all of this, Penta El Zero Miedo has also taken to X to state how his "present is in AEW" - which may indicate he's actually re-signed with AEW, or some suggest could be a tactic to make his WWE arrival a surprise.
