Major AEW Star Currently Dealing With A Back Injury
This current title holder is dealing with a lower back injury.
Double title-holder Eddie Kingston is currently dealing with a lower back injury.
Kingston took to Instagram over the weekend to reveal that he's now cutting back on all independent dates due to a lower back injury and due to wanting to focus all of his energy on his work for NJPW and AEW. Of course, the Mad King is nowadays both the NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion and the ROH World Champion.
As Eddie noted:
"Due to being NJPW Strong Openweight And ROH Champion I have to come to the hard decision that I will have to stop doing Independents. Dealing with a lower back injury right now that I need to get fixed (and will) so I can be ready for all NJPW strong shows and all three AEW shows. When my responsibilities as NJPW and ROH champion is over I will hopefully be able to do Independents again. I apologize to all but I just need to focus and my body needs to be ready for those shows."
Kingston defeated KENTA in July to win the NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion, and has since successfully defended that title against Wheeler Yuta and most recently against Claudio Castagnoli. That match against Claudio took place at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam last Wednesday, and also saw Eddie take the ROH World Championship from Castagnoli.
Eddie Kingston has been with AEW since July 2020, formally signing with the promotion shortly after making his company debut against Cody Rhodes as part of the American Nightmare's weekly 'open challenge' for the TNT Title he at that point held.
