Johnny Gargano's professional wrestling future remains a huge question eight months after his WWE departure, though the former NXT Champion is reportedly open to the idea of returning to the market leaders following recent behind-the-scenes changes.

Bodyslam's Cassidy Haynes reports that Triple H's ascent to WWE's lead creative position in the wake of Vince McMahon's departure as Chairman and CEO has opened Gargano's mind to heading back to Stamford. Specifically, the 35-year-old would be keen to speak to Triple H and observe any changes within the promotion.

Per Hanyes' source, the “overarching factor for [Gargano] walking away was dissatisfaction with his position/direction with no set plan for how he’d be used.” Johnny left the promotion following his contract's expiry in December 2021.

With regards to WWE's closest competition, AEW, Gargano has held talks with the Tony Khan-helmed group. What came of those talks is unclear, however.

That AEW hits Johnny's Cleveland, Ohio hometown for next week's Dynamite and Rampage will generate inevitable speculation heading into the tapings.

Gargano worked under Triple H as an NXT regular between 2015 and September 2021, when Hunter was effectively removed from his position. The black and gold brand in which Gargano once starred was reborn as NXT 2.0 three months prior to his contract expiring.
