MJF has signed an AEW contract extension and could be in line for an imminent return, reports Fightful Select.

Absent since December 2023, the former World Champion is understood to have signed an extension sometime after Double or Nothing 2022, which was preceded by MJF no-showing a fan fest and reportedly becoming temporarily unresponsive to management. The situation preceded MJF taking a long break from AEW after a worked shoot promo on owner Tony Khan, whom he famously blasted as a "f***ing mark."

Afterwards, MJF played up the idea that he was working on an expiring contract, bringing "The Bidding War of 2024" into AEW storylines. This quietly ended during his babyface storyline with Adam Cole in 2023. Although MJF had previously stayed quiet on the situation, AEW higher-ups knew he was "secretly under contract", says Fightful.

If MJF's new deal "kicked in and effectively replaced" the previous contract (which would've expired in late 2023) is unknown. However, MJF is now contracted to AEW "for quite some time."

The 28-year-old has been away from AEW since 30 December's Worlds End pay-per-view, where he dropped the World Championship to Samoa Joe. He'd been suffering through multiple injuries at the time and, while there is no word on whether or not he has undergone surgery yet, AEW sources expect MJF back sooner rather than later. The two parties have gone as far as holding discussions regarding "alterations in presentation" too.
