As per Fightful Select, Scurll was spotted backstage at a recent taping of New Japan Pro Wrestling Strong. It’s not known whether the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion had any direct involvement with the content on offer from this Strong show. What is noted, though, is that Scurll has shown significant interest in making a return to NJPW – with him having last competed for New Japan in June 2019 as part of the Best of the Super Juniors XXVI.

Arguably the hottest free agent in the industry at one point in time, Marty Scurll surprised many by opting to sign with ROH in January 2020, with him taking on the role of head booker in addition to being an on-air talent.

Scurll had been on hiatus from ROH for the majority of 2020 after being named in the Speaking Out Movement. The promotion launched an internal investigation into this matter, and the one-time ROH Television Champion was not used in either a creative of in-ring capacity one the promotion resumed its taping schedule in the second half of the year.

Since then, many have pondered where the Head of Villain Enterprises may land following his ROH exit. With AEW seemingly a no-go for him nowadays, it remained to be seen whether WWE would reignite their interest in Scurll or whether he would instead seek out a return to Japan - and now, it looks as if NJPW could well be where Marty lands.
