Nikkan Sports are today reporting that the former Evan Bourne was arrested when attempting to enter Japan on September 23rd. Border police reportedly found Syndal in possession of 2.12 grams of liquid marijuana that he intended to use in an e-cigarette, and he was convicted yesterday (October 13th).

There are no details on his punishment yet, but Japan's drug laws are notoriously strict. Sydal's arrest could see him banned from re-entering the country in the future, which would effectively spell the end of his NJPW career.

Speaking with PWInsider, an unnamed source close to Sydal leapt to his defence earlier today;

People are going to villify him for this, but before they do, they should take a moment to think about the fact that he completely mangled his foot in that wreck a few years back. He is in a state of near-constant pain because of those injuries. It's amazing he's walking on it, much less performing on it. People have no idea what Matt goes through on a daily basis with that foot. So, if they villify him, they are villifying him for trying to maintain the quality of life he had before the wreck.

Sydal originally claimed that he was laying low in Hawaii following "passport trouble" in the incident's aftermath;
