Mauro Ranallo Signs New WWE Contract
The popular announcer will continue in his lead NXT role.
The internet's most popular wrestling announcer is going nowhere.
Per PW Insider, Mauro Ranallo has come to terms on a new WWE contract that will see him remain in his current role as NXT's play-by-play guy for the foreseeable future, with Mike Johnson claiming that the 49-year-old and his employers struck the deal "a month or so ago."
Ranallo's new contract will allow him to keep working announcement gigs outside of WWE to go with his WWE appearances. This means he won't have to give up with Bellator and Showtime boxing, for whom he works play-by-play.
Mauro has been with WWE since January 2016, when he was brought in as SmackDown's lead announcer. Pay-per-view appearances followed, and he sat in the booth for that year's Cruiserweight Classic tournament, before Ranallo was removed from television in March 2017 amidst rumours of backstage bullying by John Bradshaw Layfield.
Though Ranallo announced he was done with WWE, the promotion brought him back as the voice of NXT a few months later. He remains in that position today, calling the developmental action with Nigel McGuinness, Percy Watson, and now, Beth Phoenix, having established himself as the company's most popular commentator a long time ago.
