Back in January of 1999, Mankind defeated The Rock to capture his second WWE title. But this was no ordinary matcheven by Mankinds zany standards. This bout was in fact contested in an empty arena during the Super Bowl XXXIII half-time show to make for a truly unconventional environment. Unsurprisingly, the action spilled out of the ring. As a result we saw Mankind burst through a barricade, tumble down a concrete staircase, and ultimately secure the pinfall with the assistance of a forklift truck.Such spots, as well as the entire premise of the match itself, perfectly captured the essence of hardcore, and made for a unique spectacle that fitted Mankinds character down to a tee.
