Miro Was Promised WWE WrestleMania Main Event From Bobby Lashley Feud
The former Rusev was to get a 'Mania main event out of what proved to be his final WWE storyline.
Prior to departing WWE in April 2020, the last rivalry of note for Miro saw him feuding with Bobby Lashley in a bizarre situation which saw the former Rusev labelled a "sex addict" by wife Lana as she divorced him and started dating the All Mighty.
From there, Liv Morgan ended up declaring her own romantic intentions towards Lana, before Liv aligned with Rusev in a rivalry that saw the Bulgarian Brute defeated several times by Lashley in singles and tag team matches. Ru-Ru would last be seen on WWE programming in February 2020, and he'd then be released by the company two months later.
Somewhat surprisingly, all of this was supposed to lead to Miro getting a main event contest at WrestleMania.
Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show (as per Fightful), the one-time AEW TNT Champion detailed:
"I was lied to. I was brought up for the spot to have a WrestleMania main event match. That's what I was pitched. I don't think I even made it to WrestleMania. Yeah, and it's not like I didn't do something they wanted me to. I did everything they wanted. I thought it was still over with the people."
Miro continued on:
"I think it started rocky. I don't even know why we started rocky. I expressed my opinion when Maria Kanellis came out and was saying that she's pregnant by somebody or something like that. I told Paul Heyman, l'm like, 'This is gonna get people confused. People are not gonna like this'. He did not care. He blamed her for that. 'She did not word it right' or whatnot. They do it in Knoxville, Tennessee. Trust me, I love Knoxville, Tennessee, but next week we're in Chicago, whatever. Why don't we save it for Chicago or something? Why do it in front of 2,000 people instead of 20,000?"
The Redeemer believes that this whole situation was nothing more than a "big rib", although he noted how he always did whatever WWE wanted to the best of of his ability. Miro also added how, despite the largely negative reaction from those watching at home, those in attendance for WWE shows were "f**king on fire every single time" for his rivalry with Bobby Lashley and Lana.
After departing WWE, Rusev would become Miro and debut in AEW in September 2020, initially aligning himself with Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford. Following a so-so start in the promotion, Miro would go on a tear as the TNT Champion - beating Darby Allin for that prize - and mark himself out as one of the most engaging presences in All Elite Wrestling.
Unfortunately, the Bulgarian powerhouse hasn't been in action since losing to Bryan Danielson in the final of the AEW World Title Eliminator tournament last November. Since then, Miro has been on the sidelines with a reported arm injury - and speculation suggests he'll be returning to an AEW ring imminently.
