More AEW X NJPW Events Coming After Forbidden Door?
NJPW president Takami Ohbari on the prospect of a Forbidden Door-style show in Japan.
As announced during last week's episode of Dynamite, AEW and NJPW will hit Chicago, Illinois for the collaborators' first co-promoted show, Forbidden Door, on Sunday 26 June.
NJPW president Takami Ohbari was part of the announcement ceremony. Introduced by Khan before the AEW live crowd, he was ultimately interrupted by Adam Cole and 'Switchblade' Jay White, who delivered the bulk of the details.
In a new interview with Sports Illustrated, Ohbari has said that with pandemic-related travel restrictions easing off, strong demand could lead to NJPW and AEW holding a Forbidden Door-style event in Japan someday:-
"Traveling between Japan and the U.S. is no longer a significant problem. If Japanese fans are invested in this event and the demand is there, then there will absolutely be the impetus for us to take the next step of holding an event in Japan."
Ohbari continued, stating that while Forbidden Door is confirmed, fans will have to wait and see what comes next:-
NJPW and AEW will open the ‘Forbidden Door’ together this June, but what lies on the other side is something we will all have to wait to find out. Forbidden Door will be NJPW's biggest United States-based show since April 2019's G1 Supercard collaboration with ROH, which sold out Madison Square Garden over WrestleMania 35 weekend.
