More Details On What Impact Wrestling Planned For AEW's Sammy Guevara
MORE details on Sammy Guevara's Impact plans, which fell through for the AEW star...
Following on from Dave Meltzer's report in last week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp has published a new story clarifying some details relating to Impact Wrestling's plans for AEW star Sammy Guevara.
It was reported in the aftermath of Sammy's Impact deal falling through that the promotion placed newcomer Black Taurus in spots initially intended for The Spanish God. Some took this as meaning Guevara was going to join The Decay with Crazzy Steve and Rosemary, as Taurus did this upon his Impact arrival, though this was never the case.
Fightful confirmed with both Impact and AEW that Sammy was never going to join The Decay. In fact, the only spot that Taurus ended up substituting for him was a six-man tag, teaming with Ace Austin and Chris Bey against Trey Miguel, Josh Alexander, and Willie Mack.
Per a source within Impact, there were also plans for Guevara to face Austin one-on-one.
Unhappy with Impact's original plans for him, Guevara reportedly pitched winning the X Division Title and taking it to AEW television without losing it, with the title then put up in a tournament. This was rejected by Impact (per Meltzer).
