Thunder Rosa dethroned Dr. Britt Baker DMD in a bloody, brutal steel cage match Wednesday night to capture the AEW Women's World Championship.

Fighting in her adopted hometown of San Antonio, Texas, Rosa finally had a fair fight thanks to the cage, which kept Baker's underlings Jamie Hayter and Rebel out of the action. The challenger wasted little time in gaining the upper hand and using the cage to bloody the champ, but Britt managed to come back and used steel chairs to really take control.

The two battered each other throughout the match, with Rosa sneaking in a Stunner on 3.16 in a nice touch.

Baker also brought thumbtacks into the match, but it largely backfired as she was powerbombed into them and then dropped on the tacks with a Fire Thunder Driver for the pin.

The match harkened back to their highly acclaimed Unsanctioned Lights Out match one year earlier that saw Rosa topple Baker, but it didn't count, and Britt never let her forget it. Rosa managed to claw her way to a title shot at AEW Revolution earlier this month, but the dentist's cohorts ran interference for her, allowing Britt to retain the title.

For Rosa, this is a crowning achievement, having wrestled for AEW since August 2020, but not signing a full AEW contract until July 2021. Congratulations to the new AEW Women's World Champion!
