In what was largely a phenomenal show from top to bottom, last night’s Double or Nothing PPV saw a new AEW Women’s Champion crowned in the form of Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.

After an 18-minute battle, the Role Model emerged victorious, tapping out Hikaru Shida with her patented Lockjaw submission. In doing so, Baker brought Shida’s reign as AEW Women’s Champion to an end after an impressive 372-day run that saw Shida atop the division during a most trying period for the company, for the wrestling industry, and for the world, period.

Post-match, Baker had a heart-warming embrace with Tony Schiavone on the entrance ramp, with the relationship between that pair having been a highlight of AEW programming since Britt turned heel on the 22 January 2020 episode of Dynamite - which emanated from the Jericho Cruise.

Britt Baker becomes only the fourth AEW Women’s Champion, following in the footsteps of inaugural champ Riho, the dominant Nyla Rose and the aforementioned Hikaru Shida.

Elsewhere at Double or Nothing, no other gold changed hands, with AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks, AEW TNT Champion Miro and NWA Women’s Champion Serena Deeb all retaining their prizes.
