Chris Jericho shocked the world last night by defeating Kevin Owens to win the WWE United States Championship.

Owens was the heavy favourite going into the match at WWE Payback, but Jericho forced KO to tap out to the Walls of Jericho in the middle of the ring, becoming a two-time US Champion in the process.

The United States Championship match opened the show last night, and with Jericho about to head off on tour with Fozzy the finish seemed to be something of a foregone conclusion. Most fans expected the former best friends to put on an entertaining match with a predictable finish, so Jericho winning must go down as the biggest shock of the evening.

As a result of winning the US Championship, Chris Jericho will now move from RAW to SmackDown Live. Despite the championship win, Fozzy's tour is still scheduled to begin this coming Friday in Virginia Beach. Jericho isn't likely to take the championship on tour with him, so fans can expect a US Championship match of some form on this week's episode of SmackDown Live.

This might be a short United States Championship run for Chris Jericho, but Y2J finishing his feud with Owens on the victorious side of things makes sense from a storyline perspective. The championship is yet another accolade in the storied career of Chris Jericho, one of the greatest of all time.
