New WWE Women's Tag-Team Champions Crowned On SmackDown
The inaugural champs are back on top...
Sasha Banks and Bayley were booked to dethrone Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross to become WWE's new Women's Tag-Team Champions on the latest episode of SmackDown.
The match, which main evented the entire show, was functional at best, but the result was the right one for the brand going forwards. Now, Sasha and Bayley have a diversion to keep their simmering (and absolutely inevitable) feud on the back burner over the next few months.
That should buy WWE enough time to ensure that Banks' turn (again, it's coming) has a better chance of happening in front of a live crowd. They'll want that oh-so-satisfying "ooh" reaction when the pair finally split and war over the SmackDown Women's Title proper.
The now ex-champs Bliss and Cross held the belts for 62 TV days. That was their second stint in the championship hot seat; the coffee-loving pair previously held the Women's Tag Titles for 61 days between August-October 2019.
Despite being taped well in advance (Wikipedia claims that Banks and Bayley have held the titles for 18 days in 'real time'), the 'Boss N' Hug Connection' have just kickstarted their own second reign in TV land.
