Vince McMahon chose Nia Jax over Sasha Banks to score a major pay-per-view victory after she infamously "broke Becky Lynch's face" in 2018.

Jax struck Lynch hard in the face on the Survivor Series 2018 go-home edition of Monday Night Raw, ruling 'The Man' out of a dream singles clash with Ronda Rousey that still hasn't happened to this day. The incident occurred during a Team Raw/Team SmackDown melee, and McMahon elected to use that upcoming match to go all in on Jax at the last minute.

The former Raw Women's Champion explained the situation on the Ring The Belle podcast. She said (h/t EWrestlingNews);

"I believe it was supposed to be Sasha, she was supposed to be the sole survivor that night. We were in rehearsals, it was before doors opened, and the producer came out and said, ‘Vince changed it, Nia over...It was the moment, I was still trending and that crowd hated me, oh they went nuts when I came out. So Vince was like, ‘No, Nia over.’ It was a cool thing but it was one of those moments where I’m like, ‘sh*t.’”

Jax played up to the controversial punch for the duration of the match and did indeed go over in the end. She was eventually assaulted by Lynch as revenge backstage at the Tables, Ladders and Chairs Premium Live Event the following month.
