Nick Aldis To Leave The NWA After 5 Years
Nick Aldis, the National Wrestling Alliance's ace, is leaving the Billy Corgan-helmed group.
Nick Aldis is to depart the National Wrestling Alliance after a five-year run with the Billy Corgan-helmed promotion.
'The National Treasure' confirmed as much via an Instagram subscriber video over the weekend. Aldis, who will wrestle Odinson on the NWA's Hard Times 3 pay-per-view on 12 November, stated that he has given the group his notice.
News of Aldis' NWA departure comes after months of displeasure. In July, PWInsider reported that Nick had been critical of the NWA's creative direction under Corgan, who exerts 100% control over the promotion's output. This led to a "breakdown" in the relationship. Aldis, who was due to compete in the NWA 74 pay-per-view main event at the time, was pulled from the show.
A source claimed the 36-year-old had "magma-level heat" for promoting himself over the NWA and criticising the Smashing Pumpkins' frontman's creative moves.
Nick Aldis Unhappy With The NWA's Billy Corgan
In a new report, PWInsider state that Aldis has not been happy with the NWA and its current direction, though his contract with the promotion lasts until January 2023. The two parties will need to come to a severance agreement if he is to move on before then.
The Englishman has been instrumental in the NWA's increase in profile over the past few years. Establishing himself as the brand's ace across two Worlds Heavyweight Championship runs, one of which stretched for over 1,000 days, he became synonymous with the reborn group under Corgan, playing a vanguard's role through its Powerrr era and beyond.
All In saw Aldis famously put Cody Rhodes over for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship in September 2018. Two years later, Nick claimed that he turned AEW down to stick with the NWA, claiming Tony Khan's offer was "fine", but not "too good to be true."
