NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 13: Every Match Ranked By Level Of Hype

2. Kenny Omega Vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

Even though we've known this since August, it's honestly still shocking that this is the main event.

That's not to say both men aren't deserving in this spot. Tanahashi is Tanahashi. After a couple of years on the backburner to allow other New Japan stars to flourish in the main event, The Ace has made a comeback in a huge way, having a string of instant classics in 2018, including a G1 final with Kota Ibushi that ranks highly in this author's list of favorite matches ever.

Kenny Omega, meanwhile, has been New Japan's golden goose in 2018, being the face of the company's ever-expanding operations in the west. After nearly two years of chasing the belt, Omega finally became IWGP Heavyweight Champion in an epic fourth match with Okada at June's Dominion, which many (including Uncle Dave Meltzer himself) cite as the greatest match in wrestling history.

However, the honeymoon period may already be over for Omega. It's hard to be the fan favorite when you're on top, and it's clear that with Kenny as the focal point of the promotion, fans are pining for a return to a company that has a "real" New Japan wrestler (i.e. a Japanese native) at the top. Who better to represent this sentiment than the man who brought New Japan back from the dark ages in the first place?

As for the in-ring potential of this match... do I even need to explain to you?
