SummerSlam weekend is over, though to be honest, on the basis of everything fans witnessed, it should probably be called TakeOver weekend. NXT put out yet another reliably barnstorming five-match show, high on killer contests, low on filler and just a joy to watch.

The divisive fan reaction to SummerSlam only further highlights how fantastically the NXT booking considers things like storytelling, tone, callbacks to prior matches and a clear roadmap for future showdowns. They're basically trusting fans to have an actual memory for these characters, storylines and, yes, matches.

With three top-tier bouts, one very good match and a worst-of-the-night battle that was still pretty decent, the brand's strength continues to flourish even though some fans bang the drum that NXT's coveted "specialness" doesn't feel fresh anymore.
