It was announced on this week's episode of AEW Dynamite that Cody Rhodes shall team with PAC to face mutual rivals Malakai Black and Andrade Al Idolo at Full Gear 2021 this Saturday.

This didn't come as a huge surprise, as the ongoing storyline had been trending in that direction for several weeks prior to the announcement, but AEW originally had something different up itself for its last pay-per-view of 2021.

Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Rhodes, PAC, Andrade, and Black were initially going to work a four-way on 13 November. In the end, however, this was changed, with the decision likely made around the time of the first Rhodes/PAC team-up angle.

Though positioned far away from the main event scene, Cody remains one of AEW's most talked-about wrestlers in 2021. Increasingly mixed crowd reactions throughout the year have led to an extended discourse on his alignment, which may or may not be by design, depending on which side of the argument you stand on.

AEW founder and president Tony Khan has claimed that it has been a long time since Rhodes received the opposite crowd reaction to what was intended, comparing his responses to John Cena's when he was on top of WWE.
