Pentagon Jr. Leaving AAA
Will Lucha Underground lose the star next?
Early on Sunday, top lucha libre star Pentagon Jr. took to Facebook to announce that he would be leaving Mexico's Triple A promotion, his home for the past seven years.
As AAA owns the rights to the Pentagon Jr. name, the star will now be known as Penta el Cero Miedo.
This represents another high-profile loss for Triple A, which previously boasted stars like Perro Aguayo Jr., Myzteziz, Rey Mysterio, and Alberto Del Rio. What makes the departure most interesting, though, is that it could potentially lead to Pentagon Jr. leaving AAA's sister promotion, Lucha Underground, then becoming a true free agent.
Pentagon and real-life brother Fenix are already a hot duo on the U.S. independent scene, scoring bookings in places like Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and Chicago's All-American Wrestling promotion. If they were to leave Lucha Underground (Fenix left AAA last year), though, it could open the door for them to sign with another major promotion - even WWE, which was reported to be interested in the stars last year. Currently, Lucha Underground prefers not to work with wrestlers who leave AAA, but as Pentagon and Fenix represent two of their top stars, they may make an exception.
Going forward, Pentagon will be working for Konnan's "The Crash" promotion in Tijuana and representing Perros del Mal, the outlaw heel group founded by the late Aguayo Jr.
Pentagon will also be making his WCPW debut at the forthcoming True Destiny iPPV on Feb 12th along with his Lucha Underground colleague Drago. Tickets available https://wc.pw/mk/
