WWE Insider's official twitter feed last night reported that Randy Orton was injured at the Friday Night SmackDown tapings last night in Indianapolis, Indiana. Orton was part of the Falls Count Anywhere Main Event match with Wade Barrett and the finish saw him thrown down a flight of stairs backstage. The twitter feed said;

"BREAKING: @RandyOrton injured at #Smackdown in Indianapolis tonight. More details to follow on WWE.com as they become available."
Clearly with the WWE.com reference, there is a more than 90% chance that this is a work, either for storyline or other reasons and that Orton is actually perfectly fine. There is some talk that perhaps because Randy Orton has worked a full schedule this year with little time off that the WWE wanted to write him out of the show for a week, to give him the first week of the New Year off to spend with his family. With at least one superstar set to make a return next year with the January 2nd promo's and the SmackDown main event already set for Daniel Bryan vs The Big Show for the World Heavyweight Title, this does seem likely.
