Randy Orton Receives 10 Staples To Close WWE SummerSlam 2016 Head Wound
"The Beast" mauls "The Viper."
The much-anticipated Randy Orton-Brock Lesnar SummerSlam main event turned into a one-sided beating when the former UFC Heavyweight Champion took Orton to Suplex City, but not even "The Beast" could have planned for how the match ended - an elbow shot from Lesnar split "The Viper's" head open, forcing the referee to call for the bell prematurely.
After the bout, Orton's gaping wound required 10 staples to close.
As Paul Heyman watched at ringside, Lesnar nailed Orton with more than half a dozen German suplexes. Once the match went to the outside and they climbed onto the announcers' table, though, Orton hit Lesnar with an RKO. Back inside, Lesnar kicked out of a second RKO, then caught Orton with an F5 when "The Viper" attempted a punt.
After that, Lesnar tore into Orton with punches and elbows, but got a bit too real - one elbow broke "The Viper's" head open, spilling blood all over the ring. Referees and trainers attended to Orton, though Lesnar continued to attack him sporadically. Finally, the bell rang awkwardly and the referee told ring announcer Jojo to declare that Lesnar had won via TKO. After the match, Lesnar continued the assault until Shane McMahon ran in to stop him, then gave Shane an F5.
Further details about Orton's condition - and the planned finish of the match - are not yet known.
