Tuesday on Smackdown, a major match was signed for the upcoming Backlash Pay-Per-View, as Randy Orton accepted Bray Wyatt's challenge for a singles bout at the show.

Orton is coming off a loss to Brock Lesnar in the main event of SummerSlam, but the seeds for his program with Wyatt were planted even before the match with "The Beast." On the last episode of Smackdown prior to the summer spectacular, Wyatt made his way down the entrance ramp as Orton was heading to the back, leading to a tense staredown between the two men. Last week, Wyatt interrupted Orton's promo, starting the program in earnest.

Though Orton, who returned from injury in July, has been a major player in the company since his comeback, Wyatt has floundered. After not being booked in a match at WrestleMania (but working an angle with The Rock), Wyatt suffered a leg injury that kept him out of action until July. He returned to lead The Wyatt Family in a feud with The New Day, but despite a victory, Wyatt's team did not claim the WWE Tag Team Titles. Most recently, "The Eater of Worlds" was absent from the SummerSlam card.

Backlash airs on the WWE Network on September 11 at 8:00 PM ET. Matches announced so far include WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose versus AJ Styles, the finals of the tournament to crown the inaugural Smackdown Tag Team Champions, and a six-pack challenge to crown the first-ever Smackdown Women's Champion.
