Ranking 6 Best Randy Orton Matches At WWE Extreme Rules
The event that is The Viper's playground.
In a little over a week Randy Orton will face off against WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins in a steel cage at WWE Extreme Rules. Another interesting stipulation for their match is that Randy Orton's crowd favorite finisher the RKO will be banned from being used. That puts Orton at a disadvantage for sure.
While Seth Rollins is still in the future for Orton at Extreme Rules he has plenty of history to build off of. This Pay-Per-View event has been around for 6 years and The Apex Predator has had a match at every event. He's fought in a variety of stipulations including Falls Count Anywhere and Last Man Standing while facing off against elite competition such as Batista and CM Punk. Orton has a split record at the event: 3 wins and 3 losses.
The Viper has performed impressively in the past at this show as 4 out of 6 of his efforts have landed him 3 stars or higher by Dave Meltzer, a standard-bearer of match ratings. Orton's most recent effort was in a 6-man tag team match that was regarded as many as one of the best matches of 2014.
Randy Orton typically shows up as a performer at Extreme Rules and the following are every one of his matches, ranked from worst to best...
6. Cage Match vs. Batista (2009)
Randy Orton and Batista would meet in a steel cage for Orton's WWE Championship due to Orton getting himself disqualified after hitting a ref during their previous title match. Their story took them down a path that involved Ric Flair getting punted in the head inside a cage on Raw while Batista watched helplessly on the outside.
There is not much to highlight for this match because it is way too short to ever get going. The actual bell time for this bout only barely crossed the 7 minute mark which is what made this suffer. Both guys are capable of so much more and just never got the time to make it happen.
After a few teased finishers Batista scores the winning pinfall via Batista Bomb. He held up his title and kept saying that the win was for Ric Flair in what would be the worst Extreme Rules match that Randy Orton has ever competed in.
