Vince McMahon evidently had other ideas, though, and the Hit Row main man was soon dumped out the door, setting up an understated but still rather intriguing arrival at Revolution 2022. Strickland's unstoppable charm and slick arsenal in the squared-circle made him an instant hit on AEW TV. But it did still feel like there was a risk of 'Swerve' falling victim to the sign now, plan later policy often found infecting AEW's product.
Thankfully, the already noted Lee partnership has given the former North American Championship the opportunity to showcase his chops both as a world class in-ring worker and a performer capable of subtly teasing out story beats that will no doubt catapult him to further superstardom as and when an almost inevitable Lee/Strickland implosion occurs.
