7. Capitol Punishment - 2011
The summer of 2011 delivered WWE’s most recent five-star match according to Dave Meltzer’s respected Wrestling Observer Newsletter ratings, when CM Punk beat John Cena for the WWE Championship at Money In the Bank in front of his hometown Chicago crowd.
It is hard to believe that immediately before that exciting summer of Punk, which recaptured the interest of many apathetic fans, the WWE Championship picture was so cold that R-Truth was skyrocketed into the main event to face Cena at Capitol Punishment.
R-Truth steadily got his heel character over to enjoy the best run of his career, but it was unfeasible that he was going to beat Cena and thus their title match fell very flat.
Elsewhere on the card, Ezekiel Jackson dethroned Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental title - a new low for the prestigious belt - and Alex Riley went over former mentor The Miz.
It was only some solid in-ring work from Randy Orton and Christian, and Rey Mysterio and Punk in the mid-card, which prevented the Washington event featuring lower on this list.
