Real Reason IYO SKY Isn't On WrestleMania 42's Card Yet (WWE News)
IYO SKY is in reserve for WrestleMania 42. WWE still has tentative plans for her.
WrestlePurists has added some context to IYO SKY's status heading into WrestleMania 42. First, the account corroborated comments from The Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez. According to him, IYO vs. Asuka hasn't been announced on TV yet because WWE are waiting to find out if Nikki Bella will be medically cleared first.
If she isn't and The Bella Twins are thus forced out of the Women's Tag-Team Title Fatal-4-Way, then Kabuki Warriors duo Asuka and Kairi Sane would replace them. Obviously, that'd likely spell doom for SKY vs. Asuka in a singles setting, because their bout isn't high profile enough for Asuka to pull double duty across the weekend.
Then, WrestlePurists collated comments from BodySlam.net claiming that IYO vs. Asuka "is still tentatively planned" for 'Mania. It appears that the company will make it official on Raw if Bella is good to go and work opposite Nia Jax and Lash Legend, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, and the team of Bayley and Lyra Valkyria on Night 1.
So, basically, IYO is on reserve heading into the biggest show(s) of the entire year. That isn't a great spot to be in, because it previously looked like she was set to defend the Women's Tag gold alongside Rhea Ripley. Then, 'Mami' was programmed vs. Jade Cargill, RHIYO dropped the belts, and SKY could be shoved out of contention for a berth on either night.
At time of writing, Night 2 has 6 matches compared to the opening night's 7, so it'd make sense if SKY vs. Asuka goes on the Sunday. Assuming it happens, of course.
