Real Reason WWE Dropped 'Hair Vs. Hair' For Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville
The bout played out under Loser Leaves WWE rules instead.
The long-running feud between Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville concluded at WWE SummerSlam last night, with Rose running Deville out of the promotion (in kayfabe) by pinning her in their Loser Leaves WWE match, scoring the fall after multiple running knee strikes and her sitout underhook facebuster finisher.
Rose vs. Deville was originally intended to be a Hair vs. Hair match. This came about when Sonya cut Mandy's locks in a vicious backstage assault on a recent episode of SmackDown, though the stipulation was changed on last Friday's go-home show.
Per Dave Meltzer, this was done as a response to the attempted armed kidnapping that took place in Deville's home a week-and-a-half ago.
Speaking on the Saturday Night's Main Event podcast, Meltzer stated that Sonya's lawyer recommended she didn't turn up to court proceedings "looking different or anything like that," presumably meaning she was booked to lose her hair. Thus, WWE switched gears. When asked if granting Deville time off was part of the decision-making process, Dave was uncertain.
The person who invaded Deville's Lutz, Florida home is currently being held without the possibility of bail, having been hit with several charges.
