Real Reason WWE Is Bringing Back John Cena
Backstage update on WWE's motivations behind John Cena return.
John Cena is being brought back to WWE to set him up for a match on Superstar Spectacle, WWE's upcoming event in Hyderabad, India.
FOX Sports reported on Monday that Cena would appear on the 1 September episode of SmackDown in Hershey, Pennsylvania, which will be his first showing since his well-received Money in the Bank 2023 segment with Grayson Waller on 1 July.

No word at this time on whether Cena will wrestle during either of his upcoming WWE appearances or for how long he'll be coming back.
Now, Cena appears to have confirmed that he will be competing in Hyderabad. He tweeted:
Cannot wait to reunite with the @WWE family live on #Smackdown! Especially excited to meet the #WWE Universe in India and wrestle for the FIRST TIME EVER in ??! The time is NOW…. C U all VERY soon!!! @WWE @WWEIndia
This will be Cena's first WWE match since WrestleMania 39, where he put United States Champion Austin Theory over.
WWE's first Superstar Spectacle event took place in the company's St. Petersburg, Florida-based ThunderDome in January 2021. Although the card was designed to celebrate WWE's Indian wrestlers, it was complimented by such established main roster names as Charlotte Flair, AJ Styles, and Drew McIntyre.
