WWE's need to make new stars on SmackDown following Sasha Banks and Naomi's walkout is at least partly behind Liv Morgan's current push, reports Dave Meltzer.

It is stated in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that this is one of, if not the key driver of Morgan's recent ascent to SmackDown Women's Championship glory. Banks and Naomi's departures left a gap for top-tier babyfaces on Friday nights - and WWE ended up picking Liv for the spot.

Banks and Naomi sensationally walked out of an episode of WWE Raw in May, reportedly leaving their Women's Tag Team Championships on John Laurinaitis' desk. Later, on the same week's episode of SmackDown, WWE announced that Banks and Naomi had been stripped of the gold and suspended indefinitely. Both are yet to return - and speculation on whether Sasha, specifically, has been released or not persists.

Morgan, meanwhile, had a big night at Money In The Bank 2022 (2 July), first winning the eponymous women's ladder match before chasing her newly-won briefcase in on Ronda Rousey, capturing the SmackDown Women's Title. Ronda will challenge for the gold again at SummerSlam 2022 (30 July).

This is Liv's first title run of any variety in WWE.
