Real Reason WWE Is Running Payback 2020 One Week After SummerSlam
Here's why WWE is going for an August pay-per-view cram.
The next couple of weekends are looking extremely busy for WWE fans, with NXT TakeOver XXX and SummerSlam 2020 going down this Saturday and Sunday respectively, then Payback 2020 on Sunday 30 August, just one week after 'The Biggest Party of the Summer.'
The cram is real, and the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer has hit Twitter to explain why the promotion is doing it.
Meltzer called the situation "an experiment to see how it works." He believes the promotion "must have an idea for a hot coming off SummerSlam that needed an immediate follow-up," but also stated it could just be "an idea that they are trying."
It has previously been speculated that SummerSlam could see a bunch of inconclusive finishes in order to build to rematches at Payback, though this is yet to be confirmed by a source other than Cageside Seats.
The only match scheduled for Payback 2020 at the time of writing is Bayley and Sasha Banks defending their WWE Women's Tag Team Championships against opponents to be confirmed. Both are in singles action at SummerSlam, defending their SmackDown and Raw Women's Titles against Asuka in separate matches.
