Sports Illustrated is reporting that WWE believed GUNTHER needed a bit more seasoning before he'd be ready to work with someone the level of Brock Lesnar on a major show like WrestleMania 39.

The reigning Intercontinental Champion was pitched as a possible opponent for Brock in Hollywood, but creative decided to go in a different direction with both men in the end. Now, it looks like GUNTHER will defend his IC belt vs. Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in a three-way.

Meanwhile, Lesnar meets towering giant Omos in an exhibition bout elsewhere. That's where WWE's thinking falls down here - GUNTHER is way more experienced than the guy deemed suitable for Brock at 'Mania, so the logic is definitely flawed.

It does, however, bode well for GUNTHER that he's viewed as somebody who could reach the heights of WrestleMania's biggest bouts someday. Still, suggesting that he wouldn't be able to match up vs. Brock as well as Omos is...a stretch at best.

Many fans have been scratching their heads on social media. Those folks are confused that Omos vs. Lesnar is even being booked on the supershow(s) at all.
