Vince McMahon really liked the idea of this modern twist on the old APA formula.
Released WWE star Tucker pitched a "BBQ Guys" gimmick that Vince McMahon was keen on.
Tucker told 'The OTR Show' that he originally envisioned his Heavy Machinery tag-team with Otis as a modern update on the established APA formula - instead of downing beers and playing cards backstage, the pair would host show-long barbecues behind the scenes and interact with others on the roster.
Vinnie Mac was into the idea, but not for long. His interest cooled when other, more important tasks (like SmackDown's then-imminent jump to FOX) took paramount. Tucker told hosts on OTR that "everything is about timing" in WWE, and that Heavy Machinery "didn't understand how to keep our foot on the pedal" with the boss.
That's something he really regrets from his time with the company.
'Tucky' still thinks that he and Otis could've produced some comedy gold had they become "BBQ Guys" and tossed burgers backstage. Instead, WWE eventually decided to split the team. That's another of Tucker's regrets; he wishes he'd been motivated to fight the creative team's plans and pitch that the pair continue as a tag.
