WWE now considers Adam Cole "done" with the company internally, reports PWInsider's Mike Johnson.

This could change if the former NXT Champion agrees to terms on a new deal with the promotion. Unless that happens, however, the promotion is seemingly operating as if he is gone.

Cole will officially become a free agent when his WWE contract expires later today. The promotion is expected to extend another contract offer to the 32-year-old, who finds himself in the advantageous position of being able to negotiate with multiple companies to strike the best possible deal for himself.

A jump to AEW has been speculated on multiple occasions - and the company's stars haven't been shy of teasing this either. Regardless, Tony Khan's promotion wouldn't legally be able to make an offer to Cole until he is totally free of WWE.

Cole won't be bound to any kind of non-compete clause upon becoming a free agent. Such things only apply to wrestlers who have been released by WWE.

July saw Cole strike a short-term agreement to work with WWE through SummerSlam 2021 weekend following his original contract's expiration that month. Duped by an administrative error, the promotion had been operating on the assumption that he was contracted until December.
