QT Marshall reportedly signed a short-term AEW contract extension in August, doing so on the premise that the company would give him a bigger push as a wrestler, which never happened.

SEScoops' Michael Shalik reports as much. The soon-to-depart Marshall, who will leave AEW by the end of 2023, had originally approached AEW founder and CEO Tony Khan to resign back in August. QT believed he was in the best shape of his career and wanted to wrestle more, rather than managing or coaching.

Marshall agreed to a short-term contract extension after being promised more ring time. This didn't happen, and now, Marshall is free to work for other companies in January.

QT announced his resignation from AEW in November. Beyond competing, Marshall also worked in the company's talent relations department, was an AEW Vice President, and played a role in creative. Specifically, QT was responsible for formatting the company's television shows, putting together over 750 formats during his time with the promotion.

Interestingly, SEScoops notes that Marshall's latest onscreen vehicle, the QTV stable, was a Tony Khan idea drawing influence from TMZ. Even within this, Marshall was largely restricted to playing a manager/coach's role.
