Report: Cameron Grimes Set For WWE Main Roster Call Up
Details on when Cameron Grimes could become next NXT star to jump to WWE's main roster.
WWE appears set to call up Cameron Grimes from NXT to the main roster imminently.
Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Grimes is in line for a move from developmental to either Raw or SmackDown, which should happen soon. WWE's plan for Cameron called for the 29-year-old to finish his storyline with NXT rival Joe Gacy before heading up.
Grimes has fallen afoul of Gacy and The Schism in recent months, entering a feud with the group shortly after teaming with Joe to defeat The D'Angelo Family on NXT's 13 September episode. Since then, Gacy has gone 2-0 in singles matches against Grimes, including a win on this week's show.
Gacy's latest win over Grimes came via interference from Schism newcomer Ava Raine. WWE presented the match as "Cameron Grimes continues his crusade to keep [The Schism's] dark cloud from completely engulfing the brand", so whether or not the result means the storyline is over isn't clear.
Cameron Grimes Heading To WWE Raw Or SmackDown?
Grimes has been with WWE since 2019, though he was already an immensely experienced professional wrestler prior to this. Trained by Matt and Jeff Hardy, the North Carolinian debuted in 2008, when he was just 15 years old.
Making his name as Trevor Lee in such indies as CWF: Mid-Atlantic (where he was Heavyweight Champion for over 1,000 days) and PWG, he was also active in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling from August 2015 until his January 2019 departure.
Grimes started picking up steam in NXT in early 2021, when he adopted his "richest man in NXT" gimmick following the previous month's GameStop short squeeze. That year saw him collaborating with Ted DiBiase, becoming Million Dollar Champion in the process, while 2022 has thus far brought Grimes a short NXT North American Title reign.
