Report: Cash Wheeler's Arrest Caught AEW By Surprise
A warrant for Cash Wheeler's arrest was issued on 28 July.
News that AEW star Cash Wheeler had been arrested broke last Friday, 18 August, with the reigning World Tag Team Champion and FTR man charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm by the Orlando Police Department.
Wheeler's arrest stemmed from a 27 July incident that saw him allegedly aim a semi-automatic handgun at somebody during what court records described as a "road-rage type incident." A warrant was issued on 28 July, with Wheeler eventually turning himself in.
A not-guilty plea was entered in Orange County, Florida's circuit court on 3 August. Wheeler was given a bond of $2,500 and ordered not to contact the victims and witnesses, and to turn over any firearms in his possession to authorities.
Haus of Wrestling reports that top AEW officials were "completely unaware of what was unfolding." The outlet's Nick Hausman stated that on two occasions, he was actually the one to break the news to AEW management members - and that nobody he spoke to within the promotion knew anything prior to Wheeler's story going public.
Hausman was given the impression that AEW founder and CEO Tony Khan didn't know about the situation, but was unable to confirm this. The same goes for CM Punk and Wheeler's long-time tag team partner, Dax Harwood.
Wheeler and Harwood are still booked to defend their AEW World Tag Team Titles against The Young Bucks at All In (28 August) at the time of writing. Cash was not asked to surrender his passports, with the circuit court not placing any travel restrictions upon him.
