CM Punk reportedly wants to return to AEW following his most overt social media tease yet.

On Monday, Punk used Instagram to comment on a tweet from Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, who stated that FTR's Dax Harwood had claimed Punk misses wrestling after reading Steve Keirn's book, Keirn Chronicles Volume One: The Fabulous Wrestling Life of Steve Keirn.

Punk noted a story about Jerry Lawler intervening to squash a backstage beef between Koko Ware and Keirn decades ago. "Fascinating", he quipped, having drawn a clear parallel between the historic example and AEW All Out 2022, where he and Ace Steel brawled with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that the Instagram post indicates Punk wants to return to AEW. This has been known for a while, said Meltzer, with the decision now in company founder and CEO Tony Khan's hands.

Physically, Punk should almost be ready to go, having suffered a torn triceps while wrestling Jon Moxley at All Out. The former AEW World Champion has been away from the promotion since that show last September. His injury would have necessitated this regardless, though Punk was suspended indefinitely for scrapping with The Elite, who approached Punk (and entourage) in his locker room after a now-infamous press conference diatribe.

Omega and the Bucks, who were also suspended following the fight, returned to AEW in November.
