Report: Deonna Purrazzo's NWA Empowerrr Opponent Isn't Mickie James
Expect Mickie James to challenge 'The Virtuosa' further down the line, though.

As seen at IMPACT Wrestling's Slammiversary event over the weekend, Mickie James returned to the company, inviting Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo to the NWA's all-women's Empowerrr pay-per-view. Although 'The Virtuosa' initially declined the invitation, she has since accepted the offer in a segment that could air as early as this Thursday.
Purrazzo won't be defending the strap against James, however. Instead, it's former WWE Women's Champion, Melina who'll be answering the call.
Fightful Select had previously reported that the working plan as of last week was for the ex-WWE star to challenge Deonna. A segment was taped over the weekend, where Melina made her IMPACT debut to sign the contract. Here, Melina threatened to lift the Knockouts Championship in her first attempt, as Deonna herself had done vs. Jordynne Grace at the 2020 Slammiversary event.
A twenty-year veteran of the business, Melina departed WWE in 2011, and currently resides in the National Wrestling Alliance, where she's been since 2019. Boasting five WWE title reigns to her name - three as Women's Champion and the other two as Divas Champion - Melina comes into IMPACT with quite the accolade list already.
